Cox was born and raised less than two miles from the backstretch of Churchill Downs. He would win his first real Kentucky Derby crown with either horse. As a Bill Mott trainee with 8-1 odds, Chief Wallabee has significant potential. Mott is quite familiar with Churchill Downs and won the Derby with Sovereignty last year. At 10-1, the Puma has faced every leading competitor this spring.
In March, he even triumphed over Further Ado at the Tampa Bay Derby. As a long shot with a historic opportunity, trainer Cherie DeVaux enters Golden Tempo. DeVaux would become the first female trainer to win the Kentucky Derby if she prevailed.
