The Night K-Pop Met Lucha Libre
Four BTS members of the largest boy band in the world—Jin, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook—took an unexpected action on May 8, 2026. They donned lucha libre masks and went to Arena México, the fabled “Cathedral of Lucha Libre,” for a CMLL wrestling event rather than taking a break in between their sold-out stadium performances.
A stunning meeting of two fervent fan cultures ensued. The event resulted in internet-breaking memes, viral videos, and a sincere relationship between a masked wrestler and a K-pop star.
The Perfect Disguise (That Fooled No One)
The four BTS members wore lucha masks in an effort to blend in. Theoretically, this was a wise decision. In reality, ARMYs were able to identify them right away.
| Member | Mask Worn | How Fans Knew |
| Jimin | Místico-style mask | Blonde hair gave him away |
| Jungkook | Soberano Jr. mask | Hand tattoos visible |
| Suga | Máscara Dorada mask | Distinctive posture |
| Jin | Hermanos Calavera mask | That worldwide handsome energy |
Místico’s Heartfelt BTS Shoutout
The highlight of the evening was when famous luchador Mỹico, the current Wrestler of the Year according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, entered the ring donning a bespoke silver jacket with the BTS logo on the back![Měico at Arena México with a BTS jacket]
It wasn’t a subtle move. It was a complete hug.
Mýzteziz and his partner Titán defeated Bárbaro Cavernario and Ángel de Oro in the main event of the evening. Mühlico went over to the BTS members at the ringside after the game to give them hugs and say hello.
“Tonight, a band that’s extremely popular worldwide came to the show, and one of them was wearing my mask,” Titán tweeted in response to the special guests. I really appreciate it.
The Near-Miss That Had Fans Holding Their Breath
There must be a thrilling moment on every fantastic wrestling night. This one was successful.
The four K-pop idols noisily jeered villainous wrestler Bárbaro Cavernario during the bout. He took a punch and fell over the barricade, landing perilously near to Jin and Jimin.
Fan-shot clips captured the moment perfectly:

The Villain’s Unexpected Move
After the event, Bárbaro Cavernario—the same wrestler who almost landed in Jin’s lap after the crowd loudly jeered—followed Suga on Instagram in a telenovela-worthy twist.
Whether this was a fanboy moment, a peace offering, or just good sportsmanship, it made an already incredible night even more bizarre.
Beyond the Arena: BTS’s Mexican Takeover
It wasn’t only the wrestling appearance. It was a part of BTS’s historic week in Mexico.
Presidential Welcome
President Claudia Sheinbaum met with all seven members at the National Palace two days prior, on May 6. They greeted the 50,000 spectators gathering in the Zócalo square below by appearing on the main balcony after their meeting.
“I am delighted to welcome BTS, one of the most beloved groups among the young people of Mexico,” President Sheinbaum wrote on Instagram. South Korea and Mexico are united by music and beliefs.
